Kathy is a Product Design Engineer at Apple. Apple creates and designs the iPhone, iPad, Mac notebooks, and the Apple Watch. In her job, she answers questions like “How can we improve the way we make this?”, “What could cause failures and how can we fix that?”, and “How can we make this product better for the user?” She likes that the problems she solves are challenging and that solving them will improve user experiences.
She wanted to become an engineer because she was good in math and science, and loves to build and design things. She tried engineering in college and chose mechanical engineering because it was a very broad and hands on major. She went to UC Berkeley for undergrad in Mechanical Engineering. For graduate school, she got a Masters in Civil Engineering and a Masters in Mechanical Engineering. Her favorite projects from school were making and designing her own bicycle frame and making a bicycle bubble blower. Her favorite things about engineering are knowing how things work, finding solutions to interesting problems, and seeing people smile when they use her products. She likes how product design makes people happy. |
